Applying to Grants on behalf of your Hospital

Overview

We strongly encourage partner hospitals to identify and pursue grant opportunities. Grants are one of the most effective ways to grow your Angel Fund and expand access to care in your community.

Because hospitals are for-profit entities, they cannot apply for or receive grant funds directly. All grants must go through the myBalto Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This structure allows us to support your local efforts while maintaining full legal compliance.

Required Grant Process (Mandatory)

All grant opportunities must follow this process without exception:

1.     Submit the opportunity for approval (before any drafting)

o   You must submit the grant opportunity to the Foundation before beginning any application work. Please submit the grant request using this form.

2.     Board review and approval to proceed

o   No application may be drafted or pursued without prior approval from the Foundation.

3.     Draft the application (after approval only)

o   If approved, you may assist in drafting using Foundation-provided materials.

4.     Submit draft for review and approval

o   All drafts must be reviewed and approved by the Foundation prior to submission.

5.     Foundation submits the application

o   The myBalto Foundation is the only entity authorized to submit grant applications.

Non-Negotiable Requirements

All grant applications must clearly reflect:

·      The application is submitted by the myBalto Foundation, not the hospital

·      The funding supports a Foundation-led charitable program, implemented with the hospital

·      The hospital is an independent partner (not a chapter or affiliate)

·      The Foundation is not acting as a fiscal sponsor

All grant funds:

·      Must be paid directly to the myBalto Foundation

·      Must be restricted to the approved charitable purpose

·      Will be tracked, controlled, and overseen by the Foundation

Funding Allocation

Submission of a grant opportunity does not guarantee that funds will be directed to your hospital.

All funding decisions are:

·      Subject to Board review and approval

·      Based on program structure, community need, and compliance requirements

·      Allocated according to a consistent and documented process

Compliance and Enforcement

These requirements are in place to protect the myBalto Foundation’s 501(c)(3) status.

Failure to follow this process — including drafting or submitting applications without approval — may result in removal from all myBalto programs, as noncompliance creates legal and regulatory risk for the Foundation.

Materials Available for Approved Applications

Once a grant is approved to move forward, the Foundation can provide:

·      IRS 501(c)(3) Determination Letter

·      EIN and W-9

·      Partner hospital confirmation letter

·      Logos and branding assets

·      Standard grant language and templates

·      990 Tax Filings

Remember!

·      We encourage you to bring grant opportunities forward

·      Pre-approval is required before drafting

·      Final approval is required before submission

·      The Foundation is the only applicant and recipient

·      All funding decisions are made through a Board-reviewed process
